VILLAGE BAGES

A morning full of ocean mists, such as Roberto has reason to imagine!

What is the benefit of travel (at least as we practice it, ie by dragging our little spats in exotic places where you linger long enough to soak the atmosphere and understand a little better local life) is to meet people who love their country, their profession, their hobbies. So the waiter who spoke last night of his wines with a meticulousness that owed nothing to the obligation Professional: we heard that he loved his job.
So the next day to find Havana another passion, a basket maker installed in the small village of Bages . In fact, it is a suburb of Pauillac, refurbished in a style that some might describe as "Puy du Fou", but with authentiqes merchants and craftsmen who are held in place by the owners of Lynch Bages to provide tourists with quality products. The village, restored and reconstructed by a passionate who did not want to see it disappear , saw around her pretty fountain and its shops with local produce. Stores were given the names of the ancestors of those who are behind this initiative and urge them willingly Bordeaux on Sunday.

We raided muscled to the butcher, which I will in a future article, do not resist the rustic but refined table "bistro" Lavinal , we regret that Bakery "In Baba Andrea" be stopped, and looked away the memories of decorative wine Bages Bazaar. Passing the basket maker's shop, Nat'Osier , I looked through the windows of the exhibits which reminded me that an uncle sold Corsican intalled in Marseille and made his fortune in the '60s before moving the bucket one day a little tax audit too sharp.

The owner beckoned me and we discussed his passion: the wicker. In fact, willow! Then, indirectly, because he made baskets, wicker: we learned that there is not less than 300 species, all colors used in weaving are natural, and an incredible variety. We discovered that simply planting them in the ground in January-February so they racinent without history and that actually hedges after the kittens in the spring and summer foliage, offer in winter the natural setting of their colored wood. Pierre Eveillard told us that there are fast-growing willows which are used in Sweden as firewood in boilers collective: a source of energy particularly clean and usable locally. The willows are also excellent anti-pollution of soil because they fix heavy metals and help clean up contaminated land without difficulty.

Finally, the wicker is worked in a thousand ways, traditional and simple objects, chairs, wooden baskets, bread baskets, baskets for the market that our Vanier has designed ergonomically to do not tired housewife or fisherman. My favorite product and I've photographed a pile, was this little box with a lid that can hold exactly two bottles of wine, cabinet inspired by a champagne producer who marketed its bottles that way. He had planted willow which supported dozens of people from fallout unexpected activity of vineyard. An elegant way to offer wine as Pierre Eveillard attempts to relaunch!
